ForecastWatch August 2011 Customer Newsletter
Summer is winding down, my kids are getting ready to head back to school next week (Sophia will be in high school!), and there is another month of data in ForecastWatch Online. The July aggregation run is complete.
This month brings Foreca and WeatherBug, and next month will bring MeteoGroup. Remember that the first month or so is preliminary as any collection issues, forecast mapping, and other checks are performed and issues corrected.
Fall for ForecastWatch will mean a number of new capabilities, and also bring time to return to some of the internal projects that I've talked about. These projects are mostly precipitation-related, including the reagg project, station metadata (which might allow better snow calculations), and daypart/MOS precipitation accuracy, rather than just the 24-hour precip today. Also, as I'm adding sources of observation to the product beyond just QCLCD and ECA Online data, some restructuring of the observation table is in order, as well as reviewing the source data for any additional information that would help in assessing or calculating the observations. It will be exciting!
Fall for you likely means the start of 2012 budget planning. I hope that ForecastWatch has proven useful to you in 2011! Please reflect on your needs and workflow and how ForecastWatch can make your workflow easier and continue to provide more appropriate and useful information.
Also, please keep me in mind for any of your big data projects. It's no secret that I'd like to grow my company, and I have extensive experience in large-scale data analysis and management of big projects. 2012 will bring a number of new initiatives for my company revolving around weather data, and I'd like to work with you on those projects. I'll be looking forward to meeting with everyone individually over the next few months to plan.
As always, any questions or concerns please contact me!
